‘The Peripheral’: Chloë Grace Moretz To Star In Amazon’s Sci-Fi Series Produced By ‘Westworld’ Creators

While Chloë Grace Moretz has never been shy about working in genre films previously, as she may be best known for her superhero role in the “Kick-Ass” films, recently, she’s gone for more auteur works, such as “Greta,” “Suspiria,” “The Miseducation of Cameron Post,” and the never-released “I Love You, Daddy.” But lately, she appears to be jumping headfirst into genre yet again with her upcoming film, “Shadow in the Cloud” and a new Amazon series based on a novel from sci-fi author William Gibson.

According to Variety, Moretz has signed on to star in the Amazon series adaptation of Gibson’s “The Peripheral.” In the series, Moretz will play a character named Flynn, a young woman that is seemingly stuck in the forgotten part of an America in the not-too-distant future. When she takes on a specialized job that was meant for her brother, Flynn finds herself dragged into a deadly mystery.

As mentioned, the series is based on the novel by William Gibson. The sci-fi author is one of the most influential and actually coined the term “cyberspace.” “The Peripheral” is being produced by “Westworld” creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, as part of their massive development deal with Amazon. The new series is written and created by Scott B. Smith. The writer will share showrunning duties with producer Greg Plageman.

It’s unclear when “The Peripheral” will begin production, and obviously, that means no official release date is known at this time. However, the series is just yet another high-concept show on the Amazon Prime Video slate. The platform is also deep into production on the long-awaited “Lord of the Rings” series adaptation as well as shows such as “Fallout,” “Jack Reacher,” and “Paper Girls,” to name only a few.
