How many more times can we tell you about this indie dramedy, “Gigantic”? We saw it at the Toronto International Film Fest and loved it. Partly and probably because we didn’t know too much about it and went in with zero expectations – that’s not an apologist move, but lord knows, you big-up something in advance once and people inevitably call it overhyped months later.
We’ll try and be brief because we feel like we’re written about the film hella number times. Here’s the particulars:
– It stars Paul Dano and Zooey Deschanel (Dano loved the script so much he executive-produced the film and got it off the ground).
– The supporting cast is terrific and exceptionally good and includes, Clarke Peters from “The Wire,” Zach Galifianakis, Ed Asner, Jane Alexander and Ian Roberts (“Step Brothers” and “Talladega Nights”). John Goodman is fantastic in it.
– It’s directed and co-written by first-time feature filmmaker Matt Aselton (Adam Nagata was his writing partner)
– The film is scored by ex-Faith No More/ current Imperial Teen frontman Roddy Bottum. All the songs used in the film ,including ones by Animal Collective and Edith Frost, are listed here.
– The film come out in limited release April 3.
– We can’t regurgitate the synopsis once more, but charming indie-dramedy with quirk that’s not overly precious should help you get started. Here’s more detailed info though.
LOVE Paul Dano, and I completely didn’t realize Ed Asner was in this–he looks great. I hope “limited” includes Chicago!
Okay, I just watched it again, and that music is great. Anyone know what it is??
I’m pretty positive all the music in the trailer is from Roddy Bottum’s very excellent score.
Thanks. Hopefully they release a soundtrack.
It’s definitely coming to Chi-town. April 10th at the Siskel Film Center!
You’ll probably never see this, but thank you to Angel! Yesterday was the last day to see it, and by a total fluke I was able to go!! So glad I did.
