Those who have been waiting for the next Stephen Gaghan (“Syriana”) film have probably lost their patience by now. It has been almost eight years but his latest project, “Candy Store,” has enough potential big names rumored to be involved to tantalize you: The project has had Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz all circling or being offered roles with Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Bradley Cooper on various wishlists. But last fall, Chris Hemsworth was the first to check in and now another name has joined him.
“Lawless” and “Zero Dark Thirty” star Jason Clarke has confirmed that he will be joining the thriller. MTV caught up with the actor on the red carpet at the Oscars last Sunday and he talked a little bit about his role in the upcoming “Rise Of The Planet of the Apes” sequel. But afterwards, he dropped this little nugget, “Then I’m doing a film with Gaghan after that, Stephen Gaghan. It’s called ‘Candy Store.’ I can’t tell you what it’s about,” Clarke said.
Luckily, we already know what the upcoming project is about. “Candy Store” follows “a deep cover agent who loses everything and starts over as a beat cop in Brooklyn only to discover the organized operation he was trying to bring down is alive and kicking right under his nose.” Of course, there’s no word on what Jason Clarke’s role will be in the film, but hopefully we’ll get more definitive casting confirmations like this in the near future. Okay, cool but this just seems like a kinda obvious press release mentioning every currently popular actor with hopes of starting buzz. The cast sounds like The Avengers of melodramas about sad people.
Teriffic actor!
