Fresh off her surprise Emmy win for “Euphoria,” it appears that Zendaya is already lining up more future projects. Now, it appears the young actress is set to star in a new biopic about the famous singer, Ronnie Spector.
According to Deadline, Zendaya is set to star in an untitled biopic about Ronnie Spector that will be produced by A24. The film is inspired by the memoir, “Be My Baby,” which Spector co-wrote with Vince Waldron, and tells the story of the singer who co-founded the Ronettes and was signed to Phil Spector’s label. From there, she married Spector, which created chaos in her personal life. Eventually, she would go on to win some crucial legal battles and find herself continuing her career in the ‘80s.
Interestingly, Deadline reports that Spector herself chose Zendaya as the actress she wanted to play her in the film. And with prominent roles not only in “Euphoria” but other projects such as in “The OA,” “The Greatest Showman,” and yes, even the recent ‘Spider-Man’ films, Zendaya is clearly one of the best up-and-coming talents in Hollywood. And her stock is only going to keep rising, as she’s set to star in one of the biggest films of the year, “Dune,” as well as the upcoming Netflix film, “Malcolm & Marie,” where she appears opposite John David Washington.
While there is yet to be a director announced for the project, the report claims that Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Jackie Sibblies Drury is likely going to adapt Spector’s memoir for the big screen. Obviously, with Zendaya in the lead and this caliber of writer, we can fully expect some major names to circle the director’s chair.
