Over the weekend, Zack Snyder and various other “Justice League” folks got together for this year’s Justice Con. And while there was plenty to talk about regarding the superhero team-up film, particularly with the news that Ray Fisher wouldn’t mind coming back to the DCEU in the future, some of the more interesting conversations revolved around “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
Speaking at Justice Con (via Screen Rant), filmmaker Zack Snyder and writer Chris Terrio talked about some of the behind-the-scenes discussions that happened while prepping ‘Batman v. Superman.’ And apparently, one of the biggest talking points the filmmakers had with Warner Bros. was over the title, which Terrio has already admitted he isn’t a fan of.
Snyder shared that he was hoping the title would be more poetic and suggested titles such as “Son of Sun and Knight of Night” Of course, Warner Bros. wasn’t really interested in that sort of thing. Other titles being thrown around dove directly into the idea that ‘BvS’ was poised to be a de facto “Justice League” prequel film. So Terrio said there was mention of titles such as “Justice League: Foundations” or “Justice League: Rising,” though again, WB wasn’t having it. Eventually, the debate was settled and WB approved “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

But the title wasn’t the only thing that was talked about during the Justice Con event. Snyder and Terrio also talked about how Michael Mann’s crime thriller, “Heat,” served as inspiration for a pivotal moment in ‘BvS.’
“I seem to remember, Zack, I think, we and Ben had a conversation about Michael Mann’s movie ‘Heat,’ right?” said Terrio. “About the cop who’s been around, you know. Pacino and De Niro, they’ve been around a minute. They’ve seen it all, and there was a bit of that tone even in Batman. The James Bond tone that we wanted to introduce a little more into his civilian scenes.”
Snyder replied, “Yeah, didn’t we talk a little bit about having ‘Heat’ inspire the first meeting also of Superman and Batman?”
When you look at the first meeting between Batman and Superman in ‘BvS,’ the scene doesn’t necessarily mirror “Heat” in any obvious way. However, considering it was in a public place without their capes on, it does sort of stand out as similar to the famous scene between Robert De Niro and Al Pacino from the 1995 film. Though, a pretty loose interpretation, all things considered.
