Actor Zachary Quinto has confirmed that the sequel to J.J. Abrams’ 2009 hit “Star Trek” will not, in fact, be shooting this January instead revealing that he’ll likely have to wait until next summer to reprise his role as young Spock.
“I can’t wait to go back,” he told MTV. “We have a while until we’re going to do another one. It probably won’t be until next year at this time. I know there are sort of erroneous reports that we’re going back in January — not true, as far as I know.”
Interestingly, Quinto also goes on to discuss (of his own accord) the possibility of a new director coming in to replace Abrams, who has yet to commit to directing. “I would obviously love to see J.J. be directing every Star Trek movie that I’m ever affiliated with, but if it’s not the case I’m sure that whoever does will be someone that he has chosen and that he believes in for whatever reason.”
Abrams is kind of notorious for spearheading projects then moving on; he did so on pretty much all his successful television shows (“Lost,” “Alias,” “Felicity”). Could he now be planning to pass the buck on this film franchise too? We hope not — he’s currently writing the film with Alex Kurtzmann, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof.
I stopped reading this article when you called Star Trek a "sleeper hit."
