Got a Tip?

Zach Galifianakis Won’t Be In ‘R.I.P.D.’; Comedy With Will Ferrell Now Titled ‘Southern Rivals’

What happens when you become hot in Hollywood is that you’re able to attach yourself to a lot of projects, firstly to give yourself more options, and secondly because the material that gets sent your way tends to get better as your fame meter rises. But timing, schedules and other factors mean that sometimes a project gets stalled or doesn’t get made, or simply, there’s no time to do it.

Such is the case with Zach Galifianakis who was long expected to join Ryan Reynolds in “R.I.P.D.” but alas, his calendar didn’t allow it according to Deadline. The film is an adaptation of the Dark Horse comic book about a pair of deceased detectives, one a recently murdered cop, the other a gunslinger from the Old West, and it has Robert Schwentke (“Red“) attached to direct. Lensing is supposed to begin later this spring/early summer in Boston and there shouldn’t be a problem finding a replacement. So what’s on the horizon for Galifianakis?

It looks like his team-up with Will Ferrell first announced late last year is finally happening. Now titled “Southern Rivals,” the film will be directed by Jay Roach and it’s a political comedy about two rivals for the presidency and it’s being made to coincide with the elections next year. Sweet. Galifianakis also has his summer schedule filled with the shoot for the next season of the excellent “Bored to Death” on HBO. But until then, you can check him out in “The Hangover Part II” opening on Memorial Day.
