So, remember about a year ago when it was announced that “James Bond 24” aka the followup to “Skyfall” would be released in 2014? While that still could possibly happen, it’s looking increasingly like a longshot as the latest update from MGM suggests we might be waiting much longer for the next 007 outing.
Speaking with investors yesterday, MGM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gary Barber revealed the status of the franchise, which is currently seeking a helmer with Sam Mendes recently confirming he would not return. “We are very excited about the franchise, we look forward to announcing a director soon,” Barber said, adding: “We are currently developing the screenplay and working with our partners. We look forward to developing the script soon and signing a director. We are hoping within the next 3 years it will be released.”
Three years? Is this some kind of nefarious, villainous plot? Okay, so it’s not quite that bad, but it is a stone cold reminder that these movies take some planning and time to make, and release. Meanwhile, speculation continues on who might helm sit in the director’s chair next — we have our own suggestions — and we wonder if John Logan will still be developing the story with Mendes, as was reported last fall. We’d wager Logan is still in, but with Mendes not directing, he’s likely passing the torch in the story department too.
Still, with $1.1 billion worldwide, MGM can afford can take their time, and at least for now, you have “Skyfall” on home video to keep on replay until more news surfaces. [Reuters]
I understand Lynn Ramsey is free – she could do it;)
I was disappointed in this last James Bond, one of the reasons i liked the Bond series ( i own the set) was the all the very cool gadgets that Q came up with. I dont think i will buy this one.
Logan will write both Bond 24 and Bond 25. He's still very much involved.
Kathryn Bigelow !
