Another day, another unnecessary big screen adaptation. This time it’s a 3D, live-action version of the classic cartoon “Yogi Bear.” Do kids even know who or what Yogi Bear is nowadays? Warner Bros. seems to believe so, as does Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake, who voiced the characters of Yogi Bear and Boo Boo. Aykroyd and Timberlake surely have better things creatively to do with their time than this, but easy paychecks will certainly do crazy things to folks. Warner Bros. released the teaser trailer via Yahoo! Movies yesterday, so we now have an idea of what to expect when Yogi goes Hollywood.
From the plot summary, the recession is hitting Jellystone Park hard, and local Mayor Brown, played by Andrew Daly, is set to shut it down. But have no fear, Ranger Smith, played by Tom Cavanagh, will assumedly save the day with a handful of cartoon, picnic-stealing bears. Anna Faris and T.J. Miller round out the strong cast, and the film will seemingly deal with financial woes and environmental issues, but on a childlike level. While this isn’t The Playlist’s cup of tea, the teaser trailer isn’t half bad if you fall into its target audience. Just not sure that there was really a need to revisit a cartoon that was in the classics category more than 20 years ago. We’ll see if families decide to visit Yogi in Jellystone Park when it hits theaters on December 17th.
i'd say this is one of the worst trailers i've ever seen…everything and i mean everything falls on its face. jesus
Having seen that Smurfs trailer three times, I cannot say that this trailer offends me at all.
Is that unfortunate? I don't know, but I don't think Anonymous has watched The Smurfs trailer more than once.
(Also, Ackroyd and Timberlake sound off enough that I don't know why they didn't just hold some contest to find the perfect Yogi and Boo Boo voices.)
*looks into crystal ball*
This will bomb. Justin, stick to making music man.
You guys were really gentle with your comments on this trailer. Are you executive producing or something?
@Rotch, christ, did u see the poster post? Sometimes you gotta slightly balances it out, especially cause i still think legal charges may be pending from that post.
Yeah, I remember that post. Maybe that's why this one caught me off guard.
And I admit, the lack of cheap, pop culture references is kind of a surprise. But it still looks ugly, and your post almost read like an endorsement
Gentle is one way to describe it. Obviously this film isnt targeted to us, so it is what it is. Im still so shocked that anyone from a studio decided that should not only get green lit, but rolled out at Christmastime.
And @Alex – the voices are really bizarre in the trailer – probably a way to make it sound more like the originally Yogi as opposed to Ackroyd.
Yogi Bear is a new upcoming movie, it is making news everywhere. Every second magazine is full of its gossips. So, I am becoming more and more anxious to watch Yogi Bear movie. I think to watch Yogi Bear movie is a must for me. It seems to be rocking and fabulous animated and adventurous movie.
