Variety is reporting that the world will be graced with another vampire film titled “Innocence,” based on the book of the same name by Jane Mendelsohn. Right now Abigail Breslin and Julianne Moore are attached to star in the story about a grieving teenage girl who discovers that her private school is home to a nest of vampires. Though roles haven’t been confirmed, Breslin will most likely be playing main character Beckett, with Moore playing the school nurse that embeds herself in Beckett’s life by marrying her father. The film will be directed by Hilary Brougher, a widely unknown female director who last directed “Stephanie Daley” with Tilda Swinton and Amber Tamblyn.
The film is being shopped at the Berlinale European Film Market as we speak, with London-based Bankside Films hoping to strike a deal. “Innocence” is the first picture to come from the recently signed first-look deal Bankside has with Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler‘s Killer Films (the team behind HBO‘s upcoming “Mildred Pierce“). Bankside is also looking to sell rights to “Trishna,” Michael Winterbottom‘s update of Thomas Hardy’s “Tess of the d’Urbervilles” starring Freida Pinto and Riz Ahmed.
Moore is coming off of a great, if overlooked, performance in this summer’s indie hit “The Kids are All Right.” She’s only got “Crazy, Stupid, Love” coming out this year, so if snatched up, “Innocence” could look to land in 2012. Breslin has a couple of voice parts coming out — “Rango” this year and “The Wild Bunch” next — with a small role in the bloated “New Year’s Eve” by Garry Marshall. The talent could be interesting, especially with an unknown director, but aren’t we done with vampires yet? Sound off in the comments about the latest in the vampire Hollywood glut.
Yes, yes, we\’re all a BIT sick of the vampire craze, just like we\’re sick of the comic book movie craze… but even YOU guys are pretty excitable when something like Let Me In winds up being really good, or when the trailer for X-Men First Class doesn\’t look all cheese-fest like Green Lantern or Thor…
It doesn\’t matter to me if they make a THOUSAND goddamn vampire movies – because I won\’t watch 999 of them. But if they make a vampire movie with Julianne Moore and Abigail Breslin, I don\’t care if it\’s Twilight 17: Vampires in Space – I\’m fucking excited.
Julianne Moore\’s performance in The Kids Are All Right wasn\’t overlooked– I mean it was, by the Academy, but that\’s not everything, right?
She got BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations for it.
I caught Stephanie Daley channel surfing one day and was surprised by the simplicity in its storytelling and complexity in its central two characters….great subtle work from Swinton and Tamblyn as well as poetic direction from Hilary Brougher.
I am pretty sure her take on the \’vampire craze\’ would at least be an intriguing take….
