Got a Tip?

‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ Sequel In Japan Already In Development

With the financial success of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” — against all odds, including a leak and terrible reviews — a sequel was seemingly just around the corner. Now, according to Variety, that very sequel is officially being developed by 20th Century Fox and Hugh Jackman’s production company, Seed.

Jackman had previously spoken of his desires for follow up films and had gone as far as discussed with talent: “I won’t lie to you, I have been talking to writers,” he told MTV.

The film will reportedly focus on the samurai storyline of Wolverine that originated from the comic series – a favourite of Jackman’s and the fans of course. This would follow on from one of the secret endings shown after the final credits of ‘Origins’ which saw Wolverine at a bar in Japan.

No writers are currently attached and it is not known if Gavin Hood will persist with directorial duties. Though, after ‘Wolverine’ was generally slammed by critics, it’s probably safe to assume that Hood would want to try and rebuild a career — that began promisingly with the Oscar-winning “Tsotsi” — far outside the comic book world. And we suggest he does as it was presumably a bad experience for both of us.

  1. There’s an interesting interview at Suicide Girls with Gavin Hood. Apparently he thinks his Wolverine movie is an exploration of the mercenary mindset. I think this film is so bad it should make critics reevaluate Tsotsi.
