“I wish my d*ck would just leave me alone.” No, really, that’s the first key line of dialogue in Cam Gigandet’s “Bad Johnson.” Purporting to be a comedy (!?), the movie is about a charismatic womanizer who receives his comeuppance after his penis mysteriously leaves his body and takes human form. No, really. And then his penis, well, turns into a total dick.
“It’s me your penis,” Gigandet’s penis (played by a bearded Nick Thune) says at one point greeting him in his car. The rest of the trailer is… special. Very, very special. Directed by Huck Botko (“Mail Order Wife”), written by Jeff Tetreault and co-starring Jamie Chung and Kevin Miller, you have to see this trailer to believe it. This just looks spectacularly… wrong is perhaps the PC way to put it. Early contender for Razzie of the year? Indie distribs Gravitas Ventures is actually paying money to distribute the movie on May 2nd (only in limited release sadly) so evidently they have some kind of confidence in it. Evidently direct-to-DVD wasn’t an option (though it does hit VOD on April 1st). The poster is kind of the best too.
This looks funny to me. Iâm in…but that's probably because I have a sense of humor and a penis. And whatâs with the Puritan censorship of writing âd*ck?â Grow up!

FYI, I wrote this movie and appreciate the press. I will say this: this movie is a lot smarter than you think. Your average studio comedy actually has more dick jokes. Give it a chance. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
This actually doesn't look any worse than most recent raunchy mainstream comedies of the "Hangover" variety. Which is not a compliment…but I'm not sure why this article makes so much of the film looking so "wrong" and an early "worst of year" contender. Just because it's literally about a penis? As opposed to being smirkingly kinda-sorta about all things penis-relevant, like most R-rated comedies? By the way, Dorris Dorrie already made a movie with a similar premise ("Me and Him") years ago, and even earlier there was a 70s drive-in comedy ("Chatterbox") with Candice Rialston as a woman whose vagina starts talking out loud. So in terms of bad-taste novelty, this isn't even a groundbreaker.
Well, at least women will now know what it's like for a guy to have to sit through a Katherine Heigl trailer.
