Got a Tip?

‘The Wrestler’ Soundtrack Finally Hits The Mat – Curiously Does Not Contain “The Wrestler”

Damn, we never thought this thing would ever come out, but lo and behold, Koch Records is releasing a soundtrack to the Mickey Rourke film, “The Wrestler,” on CD February 24 and its out digitally on ITunes right now! It seems whatever legal issues were holding this thing up are no gone. Of course there’s no Clint Mansell score, but beggars can’t be choosers. If you’re curious about all the music that was featured in the film, we unveiled that a few weeks ago.

“I love the music presented on this Soundtrack. Put together, it helps to tell the story of The Ram. Each song was chosen to push the movie forward,” Darren Aronofsky said in a statement. The 12-track disc features ’80s hair metal classics (Quiet Riot, Ratt, Slaughter) loved by the timewarp-stuck Randy “The Ram” Robinson and newer hip-hop jams featured in strippers scenes with the lovely Marisa Tomei (Lil’ Wayne and Birdman).

Oh, and as contrib reminds us, (it was 2 a.m., sorry), Bruce Springsteen’s titular song, “The Wrestler,” arguably the heart and soul of the movie musically is not on the album. Derrrr. We guess that’s why Bruce saved it for his own record? Or maybe it just didn’t fit with all the monster-truck rock. Oh well.

It’s doubtful this soundtrack will help anyone win an Oscar, but it might fuel the festivities of your Superbowl party afterjams or post Academy Award party.

“The Wrestler” Soundtrack tracklist
1. Quiet Riot – “Bang Your Head (Metal Health)”
2. Cinderella – “Dont Know What You Got (Til It’s Gone)”
3. Lil’ Wayne and Birdman – “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy”
4. Firehouse – “Don’t Walk Away”
5. Rhino Bucket – “Soundtrack To A War: Welcome to Hell”
6. Solomon – “Blowin’ Up”
7. Dead Family – “Mirror”
8. Ratt – “Round and Round”
9. Slaughter – “Dangerous”
10. Ratt – “I’m Insane”
11. Accept – “Balls To The Walls”
12. Scorpions – “Animal Magnetism”

It’s funny, we were so excited by the news because we always covet something we can’t get, but now we look at that soundtrack and we’re like, “umm, there’s no way we’re buying that.” That Accept song is fun but even a cheap $7.99 on Itunes surpasses the principles of our ironic enjoyment philosophies. Still, someone will enjoy it and buy it and we’re happy that they now have the opportunity to do so.

  1. It’s funny that Springsteen’s title track isn’t included on here, as say THE LAST TRACK! I know it can be found on his much publicized new album, but I’d rather have these songs if they are what I enjoyed in the movie AND the emotional original song instead of a bunch more subpar Springsteen songs. So basically if you want both, you must buy both. It seems pretty stupid if you ask me. The song is the most poplular thing from the movie and it’s not even on its own official soundtrack, boo!

  2. “bang your head” by quiet riot is not the original but a rerecorded version the band did in 2006. “stuntin’ like my daddy” by lil wayne is the clean version. “round and round” and “i’m insane” by rat attack are mistakenly credited to ratt at amazon and iTunes and on the cd.
