‘The World Of Wong Kar-Wai’ Trailer: Seven Of The Filmmaker’s Best Works Are Newly Restored & Released In The U.S.

To many, the works of Wong Kar-wai are some of the best the film medium has ever seen. For example, “In the Mood for Love” is often considered one of the best films of all-time, showing just how masterful Wong is at creating heart-wrenching drama and beautiful sensuality. And now, in honor of that film’s 20th anniversary, Janus Films is releasing a number of Wong’s features, newly restored, around the U.S. in a retrospective titled, “The World of Wong Kar-wai.”

As seen in the trailer for “The World of Wong Kar-wai,” the retrospective obviously includes the aforementioned “In the Mood for Love.” However, there are a total of seven features that are getting a brand-new restoration and release. Those other films include “Chungking Express” (making its U.S. premiere), “As Tears Go By,” “Days of Being Wild,” “Fallen Angels,” “Happy Together,” and the Director’s Cut of “The Hand.”

“The World of Wong Kar-wai” is a touring retrospective of the director’s famous works. It begins on November 25 with “In The Mood For Love” at Film at Lincoln Center and will then move nationwide beginning on December 11. You can watch the trailer below and keep in mind, Janus has close ties to the Criterion Collection and a 4K touring retrospective really screams “Wong Kar-wai boxset coming in the future” (hopefully, anyhow).
