We don’t entirely ignore “Avengers: Infinity War” here but we do our best to move on fast…
On this episode of Adjust Your Tracking, Joe and I try to deepen our perspective and see things from the female gaze. In doing so, we naturally find similarities in seemingly polar opposite films that we attempt to loosely connect under the umbrella of women in crisis movies. They are “Revenge,” a nasty piece of French genre cinema, released by NEON, that excitingly updates and subverts the rape-revenge genre (Playlist review here). Then there’s “Tully,” from Jason Reitman, Diablo Cody and Charlize Theron in a very exciting “Young Adult” reunion (Playlist review here) that proved more surprising narratively than we imagined going into it. Give a listen and let us know your thoughts on either film if you’re so inclined. If you are looking for some good podcast content here on the new “Avengers” movie I recommend you check this out.
Most likely we’ll be taking a break next week. We’re not quite locked in on our next episode’s topics, but we may touch on the Paul Schrader film starring Ethan Hawke, “First Reformed,” put out by A24 (Playlist review here). There’s also the new Kubrick assistant doc, “Filmworker,” (Playlist review here) that’s of much interest to us both. In the meantime, you can always catch up on our recent documentary episode featuring a few can’t-miss longform titles available for streaming now. Or, feel free to dig even deeper into our recent archives.
