Wiz Kid Thomas Horn Lands Child Genius Role In ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’

Take that, Ken Jennings. 12-year-old Thomas Horn, who wowed America (OK, the American that watches “Jeopardy!“), in October by taking home $31,800 on the game show has now parlayed that turn into a feature film career, landing the plum lead role in Stephen Daldry‘s adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer‘s “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.”

The film follows a quirky nine-year-old Oskar Schell, a vegan/scientist/artist/pacifist who searches for information about a key he finds that belonged to his father who died in the North Tower in the 9/11 attacks. Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock will play the parents of the child with the plot utilizing “multiple narrators and time frames.”

Shooting is slated to begin on the Warner Bros./Paramount co-production in mid-to-late January in New York City. No word yet on when it will hit cinemas but you can bet the studios will push hard for a fall 2011 release. Get yr Oscars ready. [Deadline]
