Yes, this is just a rumor for now, but it’s interesting nonetheless.
The Toronto Star (via BroadwayWorld) says that Seth Rogen is being considered for the lead role of Lonny in the film adaptation of the musical “Rock Of Ages.” Set to go into production later this year, the Adam Shankman (“Bedtime Stories,” “Hairspray”) directed film will follow the tale of “a small town girl [who meets] a big city rocker-and in LA’s most famous rock club, they fell in love to the greatest songs of the ‘80s.” Taking place on the Sunset Strip of 1987, the musical features songs by the likes of Journey, Bon Jovi, Poison, Twisted Sister, Joan Jett, Foreigner and many more. Get your Zippos ready.
Tobey Maguire has long been attached to the project, but we presume he’s moved on (at least from starring in it, his production company is still involved). Rogen’s schedule does appear to be open this fall, though he is also considering starring in the comedy “My Mother’s Curse”; he was offered a role along with Barbra Streisand. Shankman will apparently get the film in front of cameras later this year and is aiming for a summer 2011 release.
Nah, Tobey is still producing the project.
As someone who has seen this quite a few times (Its one of my favorite shows playing right now) I can say that Seth Rogen is beyond wrong for this part. Which is why I'm sure it's either not true (He just went to see the show, I remember Miley Cyrus went to see the show on Broadway and all of a sudden people were saying she'd be in the movie) or, he's up for another role and Star got their facts wrong.
Rogen has been incredibly picky with his parts, choosing roles that are worthwhile of his time. Its why he asked Jonah Hill to turn down Transformers 2, and why he didn't star in that McG movie with Chris Pine, and instead chose a Sarah Polley movie.
Shankman is no better than Bay or McG, so I don't see why he'd even consider this.
Erm, well perhaps Rogen a fan of the show. And Shankman's Hairspray was not only his career best, but one of the best movie musicals of all time. I'd say Shankman is a far better musical director than Rob Marshall.
Please, Seth Rogen can't sing! Hollywood producers truly need to stop hiring non – singing actors for musical roles. This is ridiculous.
