Will Ferrell Delivers Hilarious Commencement Address At University Of Southern California

As far as I know, the only time Will Ferrell has delivered a speech in any kind of campus setting was in “Old School,” where he delivered the following monologue during a debate before blacking out:

Recent research has shown that empirical evidence for globalization of corporate innovation is very limited and as a corollary the market for technologies is shrinking. As a world leader, it’s important for America to provide systematic research grants for our scientists. I believe strongly there will always be a need for us to have a well-articulated innovation policy with emphasis on human resource development. Thank you.

Well, that situation was rectified over the weekend, when Ferrell delivered the commencement address at his alma mater, The University of Southern California. Of course, the speech is hilarious and caps off with Ferrell singing Whitney Houston‘s “I Will Always Love You.” But there are some lovely anecdotes too, including Ferrell sharing how one professor who allowed him to keep dressing up in character and interrupting his classes gave him the confidence to pursue comedy. It’s terrific stuff, and a good way to start the week. [Vulture]
