This summer, season five of “Arrested Development” will finally get in front of cameras, and fans might be a bit wary. Season four broke free from the format of the original three seasons that aired on Fox with much longer episodes, and perhaps more crucially, less screentime with the cast all hanging out together. Scheduling demands for the extensive ensemble meant that creator Mitch Hurwitz had to find a workaround, so each episode focused on one or two characters rather than the whole crew. It was a unique fix, but one that left the chemistry between all the players missing. However, it looks like this time around, it’ll be more like the good ol’ days.
Speaking with Business Insider, Will Arnett revealed that the new season will be “much like the original broadcast series” with the cast spending “much more” time together, and that’s definitely good news. The clash and spark of those personalities are often when the show is at its best, and let’s hope the runtimes get trimmed too. “Arrested Development” really sings when the jokes and gags are fast and quick; those forty-minute episodes in season three really felt quite bloated.
No word yet on an exact airdate, but it’s safe to say you’ll be seeing the latest adventures of the Bluths in 2018 on Netflix.
