While we may have been skeptical when we first heard of Jason Segel’s plans to revive the Muppet franchise, his turn in the underrated “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” assuaged many of our fears. He proved his adroitness in many things Muppet: working with puppets, fitting musical sequences into a movie, delivering broad humor, heck, he even banged out a few bars of the famous theme song. Now he’s dropping hints of continuing another Muppet tradition, that of the celebrity cameo.
In talking about how happy he is with progress on the script, Segel told MTV News: “I’ve told all of my friends that I’ve written parts for them. But I have way less friends than you imagine.”
Now, we’re no experts on Segel’s personal life, but as a Judd Apatow vet he’s worked with tons of comedians, many of whom seem perfect to cross over into the world Jim Henson created. Any guess is pure speculation, of course, but Paul Rudd would be a natural straight man to play into the crazy antics of the Muppets, and surely there could be a place for Seth Rogen. Of course, some of us are now hoping Segel has buddied up on set with “How I Met Your Mother” co-star Neil Patrick Harris.
There’s a great clip somewhere ’round the internet of NPH and Segal singing Les Miz in front of the rest of the HIMYM cast on a daytime talk show. It’s priceless and about the best indicator that NPH will almost definitely sing and maybe do a little soft shoe in the Muppet movie.
interesting post, but i would not say ‘forgetting sarah marshall’ is ‘underrated,’ as i found it to be clever here and there but mostly BORING as hell! if anything it’s totally overrated.
