Loyalty is questioned, and everything’s at stake in the “Wife of a Spy” trailer. The movie follows merchant and filmmaker Yusaku after he witnesses something horrific on a trip to Manchuria. But when his wife finds out his true motivation behind sharing what he saw, he threatens to tear apart his marriage and even his country.

“Wife of a Spy” stars Yû Aoi (“Rainbow Song“), Issey Takahashi “(Kill Bill“), Yuri Tsunematsu (“Before We Vanish“), and Masahiro Higashide (“Over Drive“). “Wife of a Spy” is a riveting, gorgeously crafted, old-school Hitchcockian thriller shot in stunning 8K. The year is 1940 in Kobe, Japan, on the eve of the outbreak of World War II. Local merchant and amateur filmmaker Yusaku (Issey Takahashi) senses things are headed in an unsettling direction. Following a trip to Manchuria, he becomes determined to bring to light the things he witnessed there and secretly filmed. Meanwhile, his wife Satoko (Japan Society’s 2021 Honoree Yû Aoi) receives a visit from her childhood friend, now a military policeman. He warns her about Yusaku’s seditious ways and reveals that a woman her husband brought back from his trip has died. Satoko confronts Yusaku, but when she discovers his true intentions, she is torn between loyalty to her husband, the life they have built, and the country they call home.

“Wife of a Spy” opens at the IFC Center in New York on September 17 via Kino Lorber. It will open at Laemmle Royal in Los Angeles a week later. Keep an eye out for additional release dates. Takes a look at the trailer below:
