Daisy Edgar-Jones is quickly becoming a star to keep an eye on, with a breakout performance in this year’s “Normal People,” as well as roles in “Cold Feet” and the “War of the Worlds” miniseries. Now, Edgar-Jones is getting the lead role in a Hollywood feature film she deserves in the upcoming adaptation of “Where The Crawdads Sing.”
The Hollywood Reporter has the news on “Where The Crawdads Sing,” which Sony Pictures will adapt from Delia Owens‘ debut novel with the same title. The film will star Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kya, a young woman forced to raise herself on a marsh outside a small town in North Carolina after being abandoned by her family. After Kya becomes a respected author of reference books on local flora and fauna, she is one day accused of the murder of her former boyfriend, who happens to be the town’s golden boy.
Olivia Newman, who wrote and directed the Netflix film “First Match,” is set to direct “‘Where The Crawdads Sing,” while Lucy Alibar, who got nominated for an Oscar for her script for “Beast of the Southern Wild,” will write the film. Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter are producing via their Hello Sunshine banner.
In the meantime, fans of “Normal People” may be interested in seeing that the official “Normal People” Twitter account released the casting video for both Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal, showing the pair’s instant chemistry even before they were cast in the show.
While Edgar-Jones prepares for her lead role, Mescal will be seen next in Maggie Gyllenhaal‘s directorial debut, “The Lost Daughter.”
