We are currently in the midst of Hollywood’s reboot and retcon culture, and as we’ve learned from "Terminator Genisys," sometimes all that retooling can barely make any sense. And yet another franchise is in the process of being reinvented: X-Men. Last year’s "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" did a large narrative reset, and admittedly, it mostly worked. But according to director Bryan Singer, that film, and the ones that came before, were just scratching the surface and the real X-Men are yet to come.
So, what was I watching before? The problem with reboots, or pretending the timelines in previous films don’t matter, is leaving the audience perpetually suspended and unable to truly invest in a movie because there’s something around the corner to undo what they’ve just seen. Maybe Christopher Nolan was onto something by keeping his "The Dark Knight" series contained…
"X-Men: Apocalypse," a.k.a. "The Real Deal X-Men," arrives on May 27, 2016. Check out some new concept art below.
"I never read the comics…"
Neither has Bryan Singer. If he did he\’d have made a decent X-Men movie by now.
Well common sense is very well uncommon and I guess this Kevin Jagernaugth(juggernaut?) is lacking it.
You can\’t complain that there are too many sequels floating around and they complain that sequels aren\’t "sequelly," enough.
Yep. He meant the birth of the X-Men as a team. Way to take a quote out of context. I too am looking forward to this.
I never read the comics, but I understood exactly what Bryan Singer was referring to. Anyone who is truly interested would actually do their research and ask questions before writing the article and not say, "Well what was that I watched the last time ?" Internet and comic book fans are there for a reason. My husband\’s boss (who is a massive fan) is impressed with what I learned, considering I\’ve never picked up a comic book. But I know to ask questions, take notes, and research like crazy.
What this means is that the movies are becoming more like comic books where you can reset and spin-off and reboot to your heart\’s content.
This is why comic book movies cannot have suspense–the characters cannot truly die and because it is a franchise it just goes on and on and on, like a soap opera.
Wow! I am jealous. I am highly anticipating the 1st full garb shots of both Storm and Apocolyspe himself. Will be a sweet day when the big reveal happens.
Yes I am so hyped for this film. I saw some insane storyboard art for Apocalypse last night.
It\’s sad that you had to explain that Hasan, but yes I can\’t wait for it, finally will be great to see the xmen as we knew them from the 90s.
What he means is that Xmen Apocalypse will feature the Xmen team comic book fans & fans of the 90s cartoon are more familiar with. A more traditional team roster. He doesn\’t mean actual reboot he means the characters being featured. Cant wait!
