The failure of “Crank: High Voltage” and being booted off “Jonah Hex” aren’t getting to writers/directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor just yet, as they’ve just now given us a sneak-peek of their new film “Gamer.” Well, technically that’s not true- “Gamer” began principal photography even before the second “Crank” installment, and since then has been delayed by multiple release dates and reshoots. Americans now get our first look at the action thriller which was originally titled “Game” and rumored to be known as “Citizen Game.”
Gerard Butler stars in “Gamer” as Kable, a death row prisoner participating in a massive online game where users control prisoners as avatars through mind control and send them into battle against each other. Michael C. Hall, in the trailer doing some sort of dance, is the villain, with Ludacris, Alison Lohman, John Leguizamo, Terry Crews and Kyra Sedwick lending support. We’re happy for Butler- after the success of “300” it looked like he was about to break out, but since then he’s done a kids movie, a romantic comedy and a Guy Ritchie movie no one saw, with only two more romantic comedies and a bout against Jamie Foxx’s Penis Envy on the slate.
“Gamer” opens September 4th.
Well, at least it's not fucking 'Citizen Game' anymore. If the makers had any sort of talent and tact, I would have found that amusing, but considering it's these guys and this looks like another cookie-cutter action flick, this title suits it better.
It's like a big bright flag saying "THOSE WITH TASTE DON'T BOTHER>"
Anon, I’m assuming you’ve seen the “Crank” films, and if so, what did you think of them?
I thought the quite similar Death Race already looked as close to a video game as movies go.
Crank 2 was movie made by a bunch of lunatics. And I mean that in a good way. I’ll check out whatever these guys do.
retarded trash.
