Got a Tip?

Wes Anderson’s ‘The French Dispatch’ Is A “Love Letter To Journalists” & Will Be Released In 2020 By Fox Searchlight

In a world of 24-hour news and incredibly persistent paparazzi, it’s odd that a film that is so highly-anticipated seems to go silent for a few months. However, in the case of Wes Anderson’s upcoming film “The French Dispatch,” the news that was pretty consistent for weeks has slowed down to non-existent. Obviously, this is what happens when filming is complete and a filmmaker is holed up in an editing room finishing it up. But today, we do have some pretty exciting news about the film.

According to Fox Searchlight, the studio has purchased the distribution rights to “The French Dispatch” and will release the film in 2020. And with the announcement, the studio also gave us our first real synopsis for the film, which is set to be Wes Anderson’s first live-action film since the Oscar-winning 2014 film “The Grand Budapest Hotel.”

The new synopsis says, “THE FRENCH DISPATCH is a love letter to journalists set in an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional 20th-century French city and brings to life a collection of stories published in ‘The French Dispatch’ magazine.”

“We are excited to dive back into the unmistakable and entirely original world of Wes Anderson,” said Steve Gilula and Nancy Utley, Chairmen of Fox Searchlight Pictures. “Our collaborations with Wes in the past have been exceptional, and we’re thrilled to be back working with him and the Indian Paintbrush team on ‘The French Dispatch.’”

“Wes and our entire filmmaking team are delighted to again collaborate with our partners at Fox Searchlight and excited to introduce audiences to ‘The French Dispatch,’” said producer Steven Rales.

With the announcement also comes confirmation of the entire cast of the film, which like most Anderson projects, is stacked with A-list talent. Benicio Del Toro, Frances McDormand, Jeffrey Wright, Adrien Brody, Timothée Chalamet, Léa Seydoux, Tilda Swinton, Mathieu Amalric, Lyna Khoudri, Stephen Park, Owen Wilson, and Bill Murray are all attached to star in the film. Interestingly, the cast list doesn’t include people that have seemingly confirmed to be part of it, including Christoph WaltzSaoirse Ronan, and Kate Winslet.

Sadly, Fox Searchlight didn’t give a release date for the film, but many are expecting to see “The French Dispatch” sooner rather than later. So, let’s keep our fingers crossed.
