Got a Tip?

Disney+ Picks Up ‘Wedding Season’ From Writer Oliver Lyttelton & ‘Emily In Paris’ Producer

While the U.K. government has officially moved to regulate Netflix, Amazon, and Disney across the pond—to level the playing field so public service broadcasters can compete with international rivals— there is no such concern with American streamers and U.K. content. Disney+ is getting ready to unveil a new U.K. scripted series, called “Wedding Season” from “The Salisbury Poisonings” producer Dancing Ledge Productions and Emily In Paris” outfit Jax Media.

More importantly to us, “Wedding Season” comes from writer Oliver Lyttelton, a former Playlist features editor, and writer (that’s our boy!). This will be Lyttelton’s second series. He’s the breakout writer behind BBC Studios’ upcoming short-form scripted series “Cheaters,” which is made by “The End of the F***ing World” producer Clerkenwell Films and will hopefully be airing by the end of the year.

The series is a rom-com action-adventure story, but deeper plot details are still under wraps, but of course, all of this takes place during a hectic wedding season in the U.K.

On top of being a former Playlist scribe, Lyttelton’s short film “The Listener” premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2015 and was longlisted for best short at the 2016 BAFTA Film Awards. He also has several other projects in development with Clerkenwell, and hopefully, if we’re lucky, we’ll hear about those soon.

George Kane, who helmed two seasons of ITV2 comedy “Timewasters,” which was recently picked up by IMDb TV in the U.S., is said to be the director of the series. He also directed episodes of  “Crashing,” starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge—her first break-out show before “Fleabag.”

Back in April, Disney+ unveiled its first slate of U.K. series, including “The Ballad of Renegade Nell,” a swashbuckling adventure from “Gentleman Jack” writer Sally Wainwright, “Culprits,” written by J. Blakeson (“I Care A Lot”) and “Extraordinary,” a Star comedy series from new talent Emma Moran. There’s no shortage in the supply and demand of series content, so expect more deals to come for Disney+ and U.K. creators. [Deadline]
