Even before its two outstanding weekends at the box office, 20th Century Fox had greenlit a sequel to “Deadpool.” And with the movie nearing $500 million worldwide, the traditional plan would be to massively increase the budget, and make a bigger, badder, bolder followup. However, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick don’t think that’s necessarily the right way to go with the character.
“We don’t want $150 million to go make the next movie, that’s not Deadpool. Deadpool doesn’t lift cities up into the air or battle aliens coming down to earth, that’s just not Deadpool. So we’re happy in that little small budget range that they have us in; we don’t wanna blow this next one out,” Wernick told Collider.
**Spoilers ahead** However, it should be noted the film’s climatic battle does take place aboard a helicarrier that winks at “The Avengers” universe, so it’s not like the team is adverse to big action in general. **Spoilers end**
And speaking of connecting to other superheroes (including this other tease), the most obvious step people see is Deadpool running with the X-Men, but Reese notes there’s a few hoops to jump through.
“It’s a legal list [of characters Fox has the right to] but it’s also a creative list, because ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘ has plans, they have plans for future X-Men movies, and we also have timeline issues. We have actors who are now playing the parts who are a younger generation, we have the older actors — where does Deadpool’s timeline fit in with the others? These are all things that Simon Kinberg worries about for the moment instead of us,” Reese explained. “Colossus was easy to do because he’s chrome and there was no live-action actor playing him, Negasonic was easy to do because she’s a very minor character, but if you start talking about Professor X or Beast you do start running into timeline issues and we’re gonna need guidelines on that.”
And there’s also the matter of tone, because Deadpool certainly has a much different, R-rated attitude that the X-Men team.
“You’d have to have him pushing the edge of that PG-13 harder than any character in it because he does need to feel out of place in a PG-13 movie, if that makes sense,” Reese said. “But I could see Deadpool very easily commenting on the fact that, ‘Suddenly I’m trapped in a PG-13, there’s certain things I can’t do around here.’ That could be fun for us. We get to break rules like that. Deadpool knows he’s in a movie, if he knows he’s in an R-rated movie and now he’s in a PG-13-rated movie, he’s probably gonna be frustrated by that. We would play to that, actually.”
As for Cable, teased at the end of “Deadpool,” and rumored to be a key player in the followup, Reese said not to expect the sequel to play in a different sandbox as a result.
“I think if Cable and Deadpool team up, it will likely be in Deadpool’s world. That allows us to control that budgetary thing a little more; I don’t think we’re gonna see Deadpool and Cable on some far-flung planet 300 years from now because I just feel like that’s gonna be expensive, A, and will also take away from the relatability of Deadpool. I think at this stage in the game it’s about taking other people and dropping them into this reasonably insular, gritty, urban, dark world of Deadpool,” he noted.
In short, the aim is to make sure not to mess with the elements that made “Deadpool” work the next time around, and that seems like a smart approach. Let us know your thoughts below. If deadpool joins the X-Men imma be pissed. He\’s not that guy. He\’s supposed to randomly fight the good guys all the while being a chaotic somewhat heroish anti-hero. Deadpool needs to have his main conflict circle around a hero, like the xmen or captain america. He needs to fight them, and then end up doing something that kind of redeems his character as a hero at the end.
Deadpool sequal may not need 150 million but they definitely need more money then the first one. Many characters had to be cut out, merged together, or changed due to the films budget. The villian Ajax was very underwhelming and bland. It was overall a good move but you can tell where needed to cut back. Ryan Reynolds even said they had make every dollar count and since the director owned his own VFX company made it easier for them to create complex CGI shots within the budget.
Stay true to deadpool and R rated, everyone saw how well it did why change that

Please don\’t water down Deadpool… this is the only superhero character/movie that we adults get to have all to ourselves and look at the response. We\’ve been craving this type of R-rated movie. Just keep doing what you\’re doing and give us another one please.
If done correctly D-Pool could fit in anywhere. He does in the comics and even cartoons. I had on the Spiderman Web Warriors show in the background while I was cleaning and there was an episode with Deadpool in it. It had its fun moments, and still was appropriate for the cartoon Spidey fans. I am not saying change Deadpool\’s universe to fit the others, but if they wanted to have pool enter the Xmen scene for a bit, they could just literally censor him. You know have the black boxes over his mouth and a beep sound which would be double funny since he wears a full mask. You could even have him break the wall and be like "What the BEEP why can\’t i BEEPING say BEEP… BEEP!!!" you know a quick giggle… Plus the X Men franchises allow for mild cursing so really just the F Bomb would be out… there wouldn\’t be any real need for the oversexualized comments because he would just be a supporting battle character really.
Easiest way to introduce him to the x-men timeline would be with cable. He can travel through time. Could easily appear in an X-Men movie. You would have the explanation for it, and also the explanation of deadpool being out of place in a time period that doesn\’t go well with the time period he is from. I can only imagine the jokes of "Shag carpet, I really hope the drapes don\’t match" type of humor.
I think a smart way to go would be with wolverine like an original story based off the deadpool wolverine fight and maybe have deadpool poke at batman v superman dawn of justice lol but cable comes in and tells them of a worse villain coming into the picture i\’m not sure who they could use but cable is known for time travel and could warn wolverine and deadpool of the impending doom

X-Force is a logical choice for any "X-men" team-up. Deadpool gets to be him and the comic and action is multiplied by 10 with the same formula that made to awesome movie. If the writers read this please consider it.

I\’ve been trying to figure this one out since I\’ve seen the movie twice now? Why does Colossus insist on making Deadpool an "Official X-Man" even though Wade isn\’t and NEVER was born a "mutant"? For me, that was the biggest "plot-hole" in the entire flick. Wade was "manipulated" as per Wolverine, but never a "mutant" to start with….? Last time I checked, "Professor X" WAS ONLY INTO "HIS KIND".Am I wrong? Please fill in the blanks? It\’s the equivalent of "Spider-Man" joining the "X-Men". "Non-mutant"……..?
Deadpool will never really "fit" into the marvel world as a "Avenger" type character, he\’s there for some bad-assert and the comedic relief. The added bonus of talking to the audience adds another dimension (pun?). Ive always seen Deadpool kinda just being around for the other Marvel movies, but never being a mainstay, thats just not who he is… Having said all of that, I trust these writers, obviously they have the character down, so whatever they do with him (150 million or not) I am ok with.
I smell PG rated sequel. Why in the hell would they want to try and make Deadpool into a neutered bastardized version of the original like all the POS X-Men movies. There isn\’t one movie that Bryan Singer put out worth wiping your butt with. So perhaps they should tell the X-Crap squad to continue bilking all the fanboys out of the porn money and keep doing what Deadpool does best, insulting people and killing bad guys.

if fox offers $150 million and they don\’t need all of that to make a deadpool sequel, they should accept it anyway and make two sequels back to back
I don\’t think he really fits in with the X-men movies especially since they are now way back in the timeline. If there\’s an organic way to make it happen, great….but they shouldn\’t just shoehorn him in there or it will feel cheesy and gimmicky. I guess Colossus is out for the rebooted X-men now.
