We Don’t Need To Talk About Ezra Miller In ‘Akira’ Anymore

While Tilda Swinton has rightfully been earning raves for her turn in Lynne Ramsay's wrenching "We Need To Talk About Kevin," the film's other MVP performance undoubtedly belongs to Ezra Miller. As the titular Kevin, he brings a cruel sexuality to the role that finds him matching wits and fraying the nerves of his mother to the point of no return. It has been a slightly divisive performance, with some saying he pitches his peformance too far into villain territory, but that would be missing the nuance and texture he brings in portraying a relationship that between two people that is largely fraudulent.

So with that in mind, it's not entirely surprising that studios want to Hollywood-ize the rising actor, who also stars in "Another Happy Day." Not so long ago he was reported as being one of the folks, along with "Tetro" actor Alden Ehrenreich, being considered for the role of Tetsuo in Warner Bros' forever gestating "Akira" remake. Well, he's wisely decided to do other things instead.

"It's not true," he recently told Moviefone when they inquired about this involvement. "That, I can assure you, will not be a reality." But ever the gentleman, he wishes the production the best of luck. "It's a beautiful Japanese epic and I think it'll be a very entertaining, fun film, but no, it's not my next move," he said.

So what is next? Miller will be seen alongside Emma Watson and Logan Lerman in "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower" next year. As for "Akira," only Garrett Hedlund is confirmed, with the studio approaching a lot of big names — Kristen Stewart, Gary Oldman, Helena Bonham Carter — with none of them sticking just yet. Provided he gets a cast, Jaume Collet-Serra will direct the film sometime in 2012.
