Director Drake Doremus may next head to sci-fi realms in order to explore his unique angle on romance and relationships, but while that project gears up there’s still the matter of his third feature film, “Breathe In,” for stateside audiences. A full year after the Guy Pearce/Felicity Jones drama debuted at Sundance and then bowed theatrically in the U.K. that summer, a new U.S. trailer has landed to tease what we’ve been missing from the “Like Crazy” helmer.
A swift reunion between Doremus and his “Like Crazy” breakout star Jones, the film stars Pearce as a creatively stifled musician-turned-piano teacher in a muted marriage, whose life is then revitalized by the arrival of a British musical exchange student, Sophie (Jones). As Pearce’s character starts to weigh his relationship with his wife (Amy Ryan) and the more impulsive but passionate possibilities with Sophie, the stage is set for crossed boundaries and an undoubtedly devastating outcome.
We called it an “emotionally poignant and heartbreaking” exploration of love and its dark side when we caught it at Sundance last year, also praising the chemistry between Pearce and Jones as well. The film also ranked on our 21 Best Films Of 2014 We’ve Already Seen. And after an extended wait you’ll finally be able to see what we’re talking about when “Breathe In” is released in the U.S. on March 28th. Watch the trailer below.
This is the same trailer that's been circulating since the summer. It's a really terrible trailer, too, marketing it as a romantic thriller when it's more subdued, as an orchestra piece when it's a piano duet.
Well made and acted etc but ultimately this added up to a hell of a lot less than the sum of it's parts IMHO
