A young woman who discovered sexual pleasure and found a unique place in the world? A naive soul manipulated into performing graphic sexual acts on camera for the gratification of men? Somewhere in between? Linda Lovelace occupies a special place in the pop culture sphere and her story is fascinating and lurid one, and it’s coming to the big screen in “Howl” director Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman‘s biopic “Lovelace.” After a U.S. trailer last week, a spot from overseas opens up with lots more footage.
Amanda Seyfried leads the film as the “Deep Throat” star, who gives off the face of an empowered woman to anyone who asks, but behind-the-scenes, suffers in an abusive relationship with her husband, and gateway into porn, Chuck Traynor (Peter Sarsgaard). Balancing a variety of tones from lighthearted to humorous to dead serious, we ultimately found that the movie leaves you “knowing precious little more than before about the person who inhabited the body, the life, and the throat of Linda Lovelace.”
“Lovelace” opens up on August 9th. Watch below. [Bleeding Cool]
