While the Coen Brothers‘ “Inside Llewyn Davis” and the epic romance “Blue Is The Warmest Color” have dominated the post-Cannes conversation, one film that deserves just as much love is Hirokazu Kore-eda‘s “Like Father, Like Son.” The film landed two wins on the Croisette, taking home the Jury Prize along with a Special Mention from the Ecumenical Jury, and jury president Steven Spielberg was clearly taken with the film, with his longtime home DreamWorks snapping up the remake rights. But before we see what the American take on this story is, a brand new U.K. trailer is here to remind you that the original is the real deal.

The film tells the story of two sets of parents who learn that due to a mix-up at the hospital, their young boys were switched at birth. An arrangement is made to return the children to their proper families, but as Kore-eda’s film tender film reveals, parental love and familial bonding runs far deeper than blood. What emerges in the lovely drama is an observant, intelligent exploration of what it means to be a parent, the undefined boundaries of love, the advantages and disadvantages of class and so much more. And out of Cannes we called it, “a touchingly low key, a wholly charming study of the evolution of parenthood.” In short: see this movie.

“Like Father, Like Son” opens in the U.K. on October 18th, and will be released stateside by Sundance Selects, though no date has been stamped just yet. Watch below.
