April is here, which means blockbuster season is now just a few short weeks away (and some would argue it starts this weekend with the release of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier“). Either way, the drama of the awards season is behind us, and the special effects spectacles are ahead, with the studios doing everything they can to hook you. And that means grabbing you in the comfort of your own home with big-screen-worthy TV spots.
First up is “Godzilla,” which serves up a mini-clip of a couple of soldiers facing down a train before something else comes along, followed by a run of new footage from the movie, punctuated by the monster’s roar. Meanwhile, Fox has delivered what is essentially a condensed version of the latest trailer with their “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” spot, which gives folks a decent taste of the mass of mutants Bryan Singer is throwing up on the screen.
“Godzilla” hits on May 16th with ‘X-Men’ hitting a week later on May 23rd.
In before twenty-something-year-old film school students drop in to remind us all that Godzilla inherently sucks and the Japanese movies were so good because they were so bad because their ability to analyze a film doesn't go beyond "lol rubber suitz and bad dubbing" therefore this film will suck because…um…
