If you're looking to launch a trailer for a movie about awkward and difficult adolescence, you'll find a pretty captive audience if you debut it during the MTV Movie Awards. And that's just the game plan Summit Entertainment has taken with "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," the big-screen adaptation of the beloved book.
Marking the directorial debut by Stephen Chbosky — who also wrote the book the film is based on — the film stars Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller, and centers on a shy, unpopular teenager (Lerman) and takes us through his tumultuous teenage years of drug use, abuse and sexuality in 1991 Pittsburgh. What is curious about the pic is the casting, with the talented leading trio being supported by Mae Whitman, Nina Dobrev, Paul Rudd and Johnny Simmons. Not too shabby.
So, if you've read the book, what do you think of the trailer? Does it promise to do justice to the story? Well, we'll find out soon enough as the film is slated to open just as school gets underway on September 14th. Trailer and poster below. [MTV]

Could be good, if they leave the more hardcore elements of the novel in there. The rating is PG-13 though, so it might be a fluff-fest.
Watson's accent in the trailer is awful.
Ezra Miller and Logan Lerman, two nice Jewish boys in one movie.
Yes. Absolutely.
I read the book long after I exited the molasses of adolescence but even then it struck a chord. From the trailer at least, it looks like they've done a pretty solid job on this one.
Brilliant! After waiting forever I finally saw Charlie, Sam, and Patrick brought to life.
So disappointed. Love the book. Was hoping for more Wonder Years feel and less Michael Cera "indie". Bummer.
Hope they are gonna create the ambience of 1990's.
