In the era of peak TV, it’s inevitable that some shows slip between the cracks, and one as such seems to be “Mozart In The Jungle.” The Amazon show has no shortage of star power —it’s created by Jason Schwartzman and regular Wes Anderson collaborator/filmmaking scion Roman Coppola, and stars Gael Garcia Bernal, Malcolm McDowell and Bernadette Peters.
But whether because the reviews were middling, or because the show’s classical-music-world setting put viewers off, because it was overshadowed by “Transparent,” which landed in the same month, or because Amazon bafflingly released it two days before Christmas when everyone has better shit to do, the show didn’t seem to pick up much buzz. Amazon kept the faith and commissioned a second season, and now a trailer’s arrived via EW.
The clip suggests most of the show’s strengths have returned (and possibly some of the weaknesses) but fans will be pleased to see that it doesn’t appear to have changed too much. Perhaps the best chance for it to pick up steam is that the show’s lead, Lola Kirke, has broken out thanks to “Mistress America,” and fans of Noah Baumbach’s film will undoubtedly be delighted to see her, as well as Schwartzman and guest stars including Gretchen Mol.
