While the capture and killing of Osama Bin Laden may have ended a particular chapter in the war on terror, the events of 9/11 still resonate strongly more than a decade later. And for her latest film, director Mira Nair ("Mississippi Masala," "The Namesake") taps into that well with "The Reluctant Fundamentalist." And after making the festival scene last year, it's headed to theaters and the first trailer has arrived.
Featuring a star-studded cast including Kate Hudson, Riz Ahmed, Liev Schreiber, Kiefer Sutherland and more, the film follows Changez Khan, a Pakistani working in the United States, whose life is altered by the events of 9/11, causing him to reconcile his background with his aspirations for the American dream. It sounds like weighty material, and it is, but as we noted in our review from Venice, Nair approaches it with a heavy hand, and despite a solid turn from Ahmed, "the picture ultimately feels like a chore."
But you can decide for yourself when IFC Films opens "The Reluctant Fundamentalist" in limited release on April 24th. Watch below.
