If there’s one genre that will never go out of style, it’s the coming-of-age film. On the heels of the theatrical release of “The Perks Of Being A Wallflower” — which we greatly enjoyed — is a trailer for the upcoming Sundance-tipped and Jon Kasdan-helmed film “The First Time.”
Written and directed by Kasdan — yes, son of that Kasdan — the film focuses on the burgeoning romance between two virginal teens as they navigate the hormone-fueled rough waters of adolescence. With the cast of teen stars — Dylan O’Brien, Britt Robertson, Craig Roberts and Victoria Justice — and based on Kasdan’s previous effort, the cloying “In The Land Of Women,” we can’t really see how the film will resist falling into typical teen-film shmaltz. Though, to be fair, it was an official selection for Sundance earlier this year, so the committee must have seen something in the film. Here's the official synopsis:
Dave (O'Brien) is a high school senior who spends most of his time pining away over a girl he can’t have. Aubrey (Robertson), a junior with artistic aspirations, has a hot boyfriend who doesn’t quite understand her or seem to care. Dave and Aubrey meet one night at a party. A casual conversation sparks an instant connection, and, over the course of a weekend, things turn magical, romantic, complicated and funny as Aubrey and Dave discover what it's like to fall in love for the first time. Director/screenwriter Jonathan Kasdan skillfully captures a moment of adolescence that rings resolutely true.
“The First Time” will hit theaters on October 19th — kind of late to start marketing, isn't it? Check out the trailer below.
Trivia Logan Lerman was offered the part of Dave but he opted out as there would be a conflict with the filming of Perks of Being a Wallflower. Tracking board announced that he was the first choice for the role. Saw this, a little meh but Britt robertson has something going on. As for lerman, he made the right decision to do Perks instead
Ever since Easy A, American Teen films have been doing really well recently. Hope this film continues the trend.
Would be worth checking out for Dylan O'Brien. This is going to sound dumb if you haven't seen it, but hes really amazing in Teen Wolf on MTV. Its a pretty mindless cheesy show, but he has a great presence…I think he'll be a big star one day.
