Whenever an actor goes behind the camera, the results can be dicey. But at the same time—as we highlighted in our feature 10 Strong Directorial Debuts From Actors-Turned-Directors—sometimes that venture behind the camera can result in something better than expected. And while we had our doubts about Jason Momoa doing his thing as a director for “Road To Paloma,” it seems to be delivering exactly what it set out.
Momoa not only directs, but he wrote the film and stars in it, playing a Native American on the run from the FBI after he takes the law into his own hands when his mother is raped and killed. So yeah, a moody road picture with punching and brooding, and that’s pretty much what the trailer delivers, along with a hint of sexytimes. Sarah Shahi and Lisa Bonet (!?) co-star in this one, and again, our expectations aren’t exactly high for this, but it seems to fit right into the genre pocket it’s going for.
“Road To Paloma” goes VOD on July 4th, opens in limited release on July 11th and is on home video four days later on July 15th. We’re not sure how that makes sense, but you can watch the trailer below.
Mamoas
Looks like a blast of manias energy can not wait to sit an watch this epic ness
She also stars (starred) in Red Road along side him as well, so that should not be a shock to the writer…
Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet are married in real life, so her casting here isn't really that strange (unless you're saying that she's a strange choice for her particular role).
