Out of the blue, Fox Star India just dropped the teaser for “Broken Horses,” and with it endorsements from James Cameron and Alfonso Cuarón. 62-year-old Indian filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra wrote, produced and directed the film starring an (almost) exclusively Anglo- and American- cast (Vincent D’Onofrio, Anton Yelchin, Chris Marquette, Maria Velverde, Sean Patrick Flanery and Thomas Jane) in his first Hollywood directorial feature after decades of working within the Hindi film world.
While the teaser has breakneck pacing, we’re not talking Transformers-level editing. Every clip escalates with action without failing to tease its characters but not giving away too much about the plot. So far, we know that it’s about two brothers getting in trouble/causing trouble on the Mexico border. The Times of India described a film “(about a) relationship between two brothers —a concert-level violinist and a hired mercenary— and is set against the drug war in the turbulent American-Mexican border… [and} about how wrong choices can destroy lives and everything one loves.”
Cameron says “this film wraps around you like a king snake and squeezes” and calls it an "artistic triumph." Cuarón claims that “the greatness of Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s films comes from the fact that all his characters are driven by love.”
The trailer debuts on screens today in front of “P.K.,” an Indian comedy also produced by Chopra. Fox Star India said this trailer debut “will enable the widest possible sampling ever by an Indian audience for a Hollywood film, given that P.K. is opening to a record number of screens.”
“Broken Horses” will break boundaries, as it’s the first time that an Indian filmmaker has written, produced, and directed a mainstream Hollywood movie. The film opens in the UK on April 10th, but no word yet on a stateside release. Watch the teaser below, and let us know what you think about Hollywood’s first Indian production in the comments.
The blue letters in the sunset makes it similar also with a man shooting. The similarity ends there. There is no blast and the blue ruin poster is in puzzled fashion.
that was an awful trailer, not only was it a bunch of non sequitur like moments thrown together, but it also managed to seemingly spoil a major moment whilst giving absolutely no idea what the movie is actually about. Hopefully the movie is better than that trailer, an endorsement from Cuaron goes a long way with me, one from Cameron, not so much.
Im sorry that this will be my last visit to this like the above mentioned commenteer. You have sold out.
Aaaaaaaand after a good five year run, I\’m gonna have to call it a wrap when it comes to visiting The Playlist. It\’s fine to promote sponsored content, but to play it off as regular "news" is pretty skeezy. Not to mention this looks like shit and probably otherwise would have been ripped a new asshole in any other context on the site. Fong out.
One of the worst trailers in recent memory. Looks like shit.
Adding onto what Traie said, that poster is an almost direct ripoff of the Blue Ruin poster. It\’s actually kind of shocking, they barely even attempted to hide the similarities.
Was this post sponsored?
