Watch: Trailer For Antonio Campos’ Indie Chiller ‘Simon Killer’

nullThe producers behind the acclaimed “Martha Marcy May Marlene” and Antonio Campos, the director of the 2008 indie “Afterschool,” are back with “Simon Killer,” an unsettling character study set in Paris which premiered at Sundance last year. The film gathered strong buzz at the festival, with IFC Films picking up the distribution rights, but its theatrical release has been held off until this year. Now we finally have a trailer to coincide with its upcoming release.

The sleek teaser trailer manages to capture the chilly atmosphere of the film. Starring Brady Corbet as the title character, “Simon Killer” follows its lead character to Paris where he flees to in order to escape a bad breakup and soon gets seriously involved with a prostitute. As it all begins to unravel for Simon, we find that he may have some dark secrets that he’s been hiding. Our review described it as “Roman Polanski’s take on 'The King of Marvin Gardens' ” and praised Brady Corbet’s performance, comparing it favorably to Matt Damon in “The Talented Mr. Ripley.”

Be sure watch the trailer for “Simon Killer” below; the film will hit theaters later this spring.

  1. Saw this. Kind of felt a bit let down after the promise of "Afterschool." THe POlanski making "Marcin Gardens" reference is tenuous at best. It was engaging, stylistic, creepy, and atmospheric, but just never resonated with me afterwards – kind of like a well-intentioned attempt to make a European-style "A movie" that gets undercut by a "B movie" result…close cousins would be "Taxi Driver" or "American Psycho" or Gaspar Noe's work, but it lacked the bite of those.

Worth seeing, though. Brady Corbet really inhabits something that keeps you glued.
