Got a Tip?

Watch: Trailer & Clip For TIFF Entry, Roger Michell’s ‘Le Week-End’ Starring Jim Broadbent, Lindsay Duncan & Jeff Goldblum

There are lots of movies coming this fall, dripping with heavy drama and intense themes, but sometimes you just need to escape. And from the first glances at “Notting Hill” and “Venus” director Roger Michell‘s “Le Week-End,” this could be exactly the kind of feel-good medicine audiences will go for. A romance with a couple of older charmers set in Paris? It almost sounds a bit too on the nose, and certainly the first trailer and clip aren’t subtle, but if brewed right it could be a worthwhile concoction.

Starring Jim Broadbent, Lindsay Duncan and Jeff Goldblum, the film follows a couple who head to Paris for a second honeymoon but drive each other crazy in almost every way imaginable, through romance and irritation. But before you write it off, just remember Michell’s previous credits as listed above, and the fact that last year he made a run at the awards season with “Hyde Park On Hudson.” Anything’s possible. Here’s the official synopsis:

Nick and Meg Burrows return to Paris, the city where they honeymooned, to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary and rediscover some romance in their long-lived marriage. The film follows the couple as long-established tensions in their marriage break out in humorous and often painful ways.

“Le Week-End” plays TIFF next month and opens in the U.K. on October 11th. Music Box Films will distribute the film in the U.S., though no date has been stamped for it yet.
