Got a Tip?

Watch: ‘Thor’ Trailer Arrives And It’s A Shorter Version Of What You Saw Last Summer

The first trailer for “Thor” has landed and if you saw the widely circulated, decent quality Comic-Con clip that made the rounds last summer, you’ve pretty much seen this one as well (granted, there are some new, brief scenes of the hammer and Thor flying around and a couple fresh peeks of Destroyer making things go boom).

We’ve had reservations about this particular comic getting the big screen treatment and our quibbles haven’t been put to rest just yet. The set designs still look pretty dorky — we’re still unclear why Odin & co seem to live inside a giant church organ — and director Kenneth Branagh‘s love of Dutch camera angles is slightly excessive. That said, we’d be lying if we said it still doesn’t excite us on some level and we hope the gravitas that Branagh is bringing to the table doesn’t tip over into camp. So yeah, our expectations on this one are reserved. But lest we be called snarky haters, we’ll leave our comments at that.

The film’s huge cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Stellan Skarsgård, Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Rene Russo and Adriana Barraza, and it will arrive in theaters on May 6, 2011.

  1. This is by far the ugliest thing that ever treaded these realms. Overacted, oveproduced, and hideous design. I\’ll go and watch Erik the Viking again. At least it\’s meant to be funny.

  2. I said the same thing when the comic-con footage leaked. It seems like it will have the first and last reel on Asgard, then the rest on small-town Earth sets with a big guy in a T-shirt beating people up. Masters of the Universe meets the 1990 Captain America movie…

  3. This, unfortunately, looks to be on par with the green lantern. This looks even more disappointing considering the talent level is higher than lanterns. And I\’ll have to state the obvious here, from the trailer alone, this film seriously reminds me of masters of the universe in every way.
