The biggest drama on TV these days — bigger even than “Game Of Thrones” — is “The Walking Dead.” AMC’s zombie drama, based on the comic book and soon to enter its sixth season, is an absolute monster, watched at its highest point by seventeen million people, more than twice the number that tune into HBO’s fantasy epic.
Understandably, the network are keen to replicate their success, and so was born “Fear The Walking Dead,” a spin-off series. Set in L.A, it differs from its predecessor due to being set at the very beginning of the zombie apocalypse, and its tight focus on a single family, played by Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis and others.
The show airs its pilot (of a six-episode first season) this Sunday, August 23rd, and in preparation, AMC (via The AV Club) have made the first three minutes of the show available online, featuring one of our On The Rise actors, Frank Dillane (as the drug-addicted teen son of the family, Nick) encountering the undead. Reviews are mixed on the series so far, with some suggesting it could be better than the original, some finding it dull, but you can find out for yourself below, this Sunday.
I can overlook the general \’dullness\’ but I\’m having a hard time connecting with Dillane\’s performance in this. Maybe it\’s the writing, maybe it\’s the direction, maybe it\’s him… or hell, maybe it\’s all of it combined, but his performance just seemed stilted.
