Universal had a surprise smash hit in the summer of 2010 with "Despicable Me." Surely, the studio thought the film would do well, but it bowled over critics, won the hearts of audiences and climbed its way to over $540 million, thus making a sequel an inevitability.
And so, even though we're still over a year away, Universal seems to want this one to be even bigger, and are already rolling out a teaser of sorts. No, you won't get any plot details or even any elaborate animation. Instead, you'll get four minions singing "Barbara Ann" by the Beach Boys, except saying Banana — presumbly as a reference to the short film they featured in, "Banana" (which you can also watch below). How this all ties into the next movie, who knows (we'd be surprised if it did), but this spot would've worked better if they got the new villain, voiced by Al Pacino, to do something.
Anyway, check it out below. "Despicable Me 2" arrives on July 3, 2013.
