Alright, it’s finally here. It’s been debated about as premiering in from of “The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies” and Disney’s “Into The Woods,” but Disney/LucasFilm decided to go their own way and debut the first brief teaser trailer for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in theaters first, perhaps as a way to encourage audiences to actually attend one. Lucky for us they also decided to release it online.
And it’s pretty short. Just under a minute long, the J.J. Abrams-directed film’s trailer shows each of the lead characters ever so briefly and fades to black and it also gives a quick tease of the Millennium Falcon which will surely produce nerd-boners for some. And of course, this trailer is scored to the classic solemn “Force Theme” by John Williams which honestly gives one chills. And we’ve always said one of George Lucas’ biggest problems with the original prequels was not reusing a lot of that score. But George Lucas is no longer here and it’s a new day.
A new generation has taken over “Star Wars” in front of and behind the camera. J.J. Abrams is obviously directing and longtime Steven Spielberg producer Kathleen Kennedy is arguably the biggest gatekeeper since she’s overseeing all the new “Star Wars” films that will move beyond just the seventh episode by Abrams (“Episode 8” and possible “Episode 9” is already being set for writer/director Rian Johnson).
For the ‘Force Awakens’ new cast members John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and Warwick Davis in the new film. Who do they play? Well, so far all that has just been is rumor and speculation so let’s leave it at that.
What’s ‘The Force Awakens’ about? That too has been the subject of much conjecture, but we do know that it appears to be a new generation joining the classic Star Wars bunch. One of the strongest rumors out there is that the movie is the search for Luke Skywalker who has been in self-imposed exile for almost thirty years. True? Hard to say and the trailer doesn’t give much details other than things you can try and piece together about what the actors are wearing, but the title ‘The Force Awakens’ does seem to lend some credence to that posit.
Who’s narrating? Well, apparently it’s Benedict Cumberbatch and Andy Serkis. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” opens worldwide on December 18, 2015. Watch the trailer below.
How does this teaser trailer compare to the originals? See for yourself below.
11.29.14 Update: Haters to the back. Evidently there have been racists not totally happy that ‘The Force Awakens’ trailer opens up with an black man. The actor in question John Boyega has a response. "To whom it may concern… get used to it."
I think Boyega is disguised as a stormtrooper and is on the run and that\’s why he is so out of breath. Perhaps he knows the plans of the new enemy? So excited!
this foreshadow some good thing, it a shame that people are going nuts because of John Boyega being a stormtrooper like it\’s a blasphemy to have a black stormtroopers, a real shame
It\’s The Emperor speaking.
Poorly written article. incoherent and non-factual. you start by saying they didn\’t put the trailer in front of into woods, but rather in the theaters instead. what??? the "the Force" theme is NEVER used in the trailer. the Star Wars theme ( or Luke\’s theme ) is used however.
The only thing you can judge are the visuals, and frankly they look more JJ Abrams "Star Trek" (shakycam of the MF, strobe-y shot of Stormtroopers) than classic "Star Wars".
I remain hopeful but a bit more skeptical that this new picture will in any way capture the magic of the first two.
I thought Cumberbatch wasn\’t in this movie. It sounds like Max Von Sydow to me…
Theres a reason it\’s called a "teaser" trailer. Rarely is much actually shown. So they delivered on that front
doesn\’t it sound like a deepened voiced Adam Driver, though?
Feel eight years old again… Is that Oscar Isaac flying the X-Wing?
There wasn\’t much there, but it got me even more excited (which I wasn\’t sure was possible) than I already was.
sounds like benedict cumberbatch
Well, it definitely is a "teaser"… short as they come.. tantalising like few! I love it! Everything about it? the mystery, the score? Its punchiness.. the hint of a new lightsaber… and of course the Millennium Falcom.
I am game for this… But then again, I always was…
Looks like that Bad Ass Digest trailer report was dead wrong.
Not much to go on but I have to admit it made me smile!
