It seems in the not-so-distant future, assholes still rule. Anyway, after dropping a wealth of footage at Comic-Con, it seems Fox wants to give away as much of this movie as possible before it hits theaters (reminiscent of their campaign for “X-Men: First Class“), so now barely one week later, we now have a trailer for the increasingly silly looking “In Time.”
In this latest look at the film, it would seem the entire plot is generated by assholes. First, there is the heartless bus driver who won’t let Olivia Wilde on the bus even though she is short on time to pay (yeah, hours and minutes are currency in this high-concept sci-fi flick) and there is that jerk from “Mad Men” playing an even jerkier version of that character here. Anyway, it’s not really explained in the trailer very well, but for some reason Justin Timberlake has to go on the run (because as that other footage revealed, he’s accused of murder, being on the receiving end of a very generous gift of time by that “White Collar” guy) and Amanda Seyfried is there to yell “look out” and shoot a pretty huge gun. Anyway, in case you can’t tell, this kind of looks pretty terrible and as much as we want Andrew Niccol to return to his “Gattaca” glory, he’s beginning to look like a one shot wonder (sorry folks, “Lord of War” is pretty overrated).
“In Time” has its clock set for an October 28th release. (UPDATE: Access Hollywood has pulled it from their site, but you can still check it our via WorstPreviews below:)

The late 90s cranked out these movies in droves with the likes of Strange Days, 12 Monkeys, Gatacca, eXistenZ, The Thirteenth Floor, Dark City, The Matrix etc., and while the clear winner of that round was The Matrix, I think this decade has already provided us with out sci fi masterpiece with Inception…so why keep trying?
I don\’t think the article is knocking this film\’s \”future look\” just for the sake of it…point being, Gatacca provided probably the most accurate portrayal of what the future could very well be (inluding the awesome sets), and now the same filmmaker is doing it again, only not as good. Seems like a fair gripe to me
Personally, although I love high concept sci fi films, they come in fits and starts, and it seems we\’ve been a little oversaturated by them lately. This year we\’ve already had Source Code, The Adjusment Bureau and Limitless (to some degree)…so you can\’t help if people feel like they been there done that.
I just would love for a modern science fiction film set in the future didn\’t follow the tired Staple Storyline.
– Society is messed up for some reason. The poor are poorer & the rich are richer. Young attractive white man at the bottom of society gets his hands on something truly important. For the next 90 minutes he\’s chased by a crew of 5 Suited Henchman & narrowly escapes capture every time. During the journey he takes an attractive white wealthy woman hostage & during the course of their adventure the two fall in love.
It all ends with the two mismatched lovers (Rich & Poor) breaking into the Evil Corporations head office & the two take the fight to Mr. Capitalist. Explosions occur & the heroes are happy & alive…. probably living in a cabin somewhere in the woods.
Seriously, I just would love for their to be a sci-fi film by Hollywood that doesn\’t follow this storyline.

lord of war is a masterpiece
I think this looks rather interesting, but that doesn\’t always make for a good film. I\’m mildly intrigued, thanks to a pretty deep cast. I happen to love \”Lord of War\” myself, and I\’m not ashamed to say it
I don\’t think when people say \”overrated\” the term becomes a synonym for \”awful.\”

FWIW, Roger Deakins shot this, and this is his first film he shot digitally.
Beside \”Lord of War\” being an excellent movie, I suppose \”The Truman Show\”, also written by Niccol, is overrated too?
Yeah, any vision of the future that is even the least bit different from the standard accepted \”Blade Runner grunge look\” has to be \”silly\” and looks \”terrible\”.
I think it\’s fairly obvious that Andrew Niccol doesn\’t want this movie to be taken at face value. Like pretty much every thriller set in a dystopian future, it\’s meant as a metaphor, and at that level I think it looks fascinating.
But what do I know? I\’m a guy who doesn\’t hate Justin Timberlake!
