Last summer while Jon Stewart was off making his directorial debut, “Rosewater,” John Oliver stepped in and took on the hosting duties for “The Daily Show,” and he did a bang up job. Clearly, people in the high places were watching, as last fall, HBO inked the comedian for a new series, “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.” And now we’re getting our first taste of what’s to come.
A new teaser has dropped for the show, which plays up the fact that this is a weekly affair and sorry, if you’re expecting commentary on what happened on Tuesday it’s not coming until Sunday. Oliver is a pretty winning presence—wry, funny and yeah, we’re eager to see what he’ll do with 30 minutes to play on HBO each week. Our only concern is that it’s nothing more than another “The Daily Show,” but perhaps that’s not really a problem.
“Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” debuts on Sunday, April 27th at 11 p.m.
