Watch: Supercut Highlights The Stillness In Alejandro González Iñárritu’s ‘The Revenant’

The RevenantWith its various long-takes and its narrative centered on one man’s thousand-mile quest to seek vengeance on those who left him for dead, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s “The Revenant” combined beauty with brutality. And Vimeo user Tom Williams has highlighted the moments of pause in his video, “Stillness in The Revenant.”

Beautifully complimenting Emmanuel Lubezki’s gorgeous Oscar-winning cinematography, this somber, poetic 2 ½ minute tribute to Iñárritu’s latest is a stunning, visually extraordinary look at the film’s magnetic vision, captured entirely in natural lighting. While the film’s rugged, strenuous production and story often overshadowed the film’s larger conversation, this video is a firm reminder of the often-patient, carefully considered use of open space and barren terrain to demonstrate the sullen, sorrowful themes laid thick within. And though Leonardo DiCaprio’s whole-hearted dedication battling the elements and Iñárritu’s unceasing commitment to realize this rugged passion project blockade most people’s conversations about the film, Williams’ proves Lubezki is the real star in the end.

Accompanied by Ryuichi Sakamoto’s sweeping main theme, this is an aching, fondly-realized celebration of the film’s magnetic quality. And though "The Revenant" can seem never-ending, especially in retrospect, sometimes it’s good to sit back and appreciate the painstaking beauty found within. Check out the video below.

  1. For me, even though the video is spoilery since I have yet to see it, it\’s so beautiful. The shots, cinematography, landscapes, and just about everything about them are breathtaking and gorgeous. I felt like I was being hypnotized. And the film score moved me and felt rather gripping. I wait for the day when I final get the DVD and finally see the film.

  2. The Revenant is a film about survival in an environment in which all elements are hostile. The experienced hunter Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) survives (in a painfully drawn-out scene) barely an attack by a bear only to be deceived and abandoned by the men who had to watch over him to the grave. The group trappers where both part of it has now been moved on by the Indians go area Glass\’ knows better than all of us together ", as noted by their leader Henry (Domhnall Gleeson) onlinemoviesfreedownloadblogs.blogspot.in

  3. These very scenes and their quiet solitude are the very reason why I watched The Revenant four times and am now going to buy the DVD. The scenes are unspeakably beautiful works of art. What a privilege its been to benefit from the director\’s and the photographer\’s artistry. I cherish this film.
