In case you forgot, "Zero Dark Thirty" isn't the only topical drama hitting theaters this month. Right before everyone gets wasted on New Year's Eve, "Promised Land" will hit theaters, a drama set against the backdrop of a tumbling economy, and the promise of financial gains through the controversial method of extracting natural gas known as fracking. It will be the last awards season player to hit theaters, but before it comes out near you, seven clips have arrived to give you a taste.
Written by Matt Damon and John Krasinski, based on an idea by Dave Eggers and directed by Gus Van Sant (man, you can't argue with those bonafides), the picture tells the story of a salesman who comes to a rural town to buy the drilling rights to their land, but runs up against an environmentalist and local schoolteacher who don't approve. Stacked with great supporting players including Frances McDormand, Rosemarie Dewitt, Hal Holbrook, Scoot McNairy and more, this one isn't lacking any talent.
Does the issues driven drama work? Well, you can read our review here or see it for yourself when it opens on December 28th. Watch below. [via The Film Stage]
