Last week we asked about how you readers felt about movie trailers and whether or not they spoiled anything. One aspect we forgot to bring up was the existence of the EPK-style behind-the-scenes looks at movies that have arrived at a higher frequency during these past few years. Case in point, a seven-minute peek behind-the-scenes of the secretive “Star Trek Into Darkness” has landed online.
Though the video has been embedded below, it actually hasn’t been viewed by this writer on the off-chance that something may be spoiled. Somewhere in the middle of Spring, I realized that I hadn’t seen any footage or read any news on J.J. Abrams-helmed sequel since the end of last year. Seeing it as some sort of miracle, I decided to keep it up and I’ve gone so far as to avoid going to any of the other tent-poles, including this past weekend’s colossal “Iron Man 3” (and it seems that I was probably the only one), lest I gaze my eyes on new footage and when I see the Bad Robot logo on my TV, I change the channel. All I know at this point is that Benedict Cumberbatch is the bad guy, bad things happen, and a Klingon will appear in some form or another.
For you more cavalier viewers out there, the behind-the-scenes video is below, but with less than two weeks to go, this writer is going to remain vigilant. Sound off in the comments below on how you handle viewing EPK-style videos and how far you’ve managed to avoid spoilers before, if at all. “Star Trek Into Darkness” bounds into theaters on May 17th.
