Got a Tip?

Watch: Sony Releases “In Franco And Rogen We Trust” Promo For ‘The Interview’

The InterviewWell, this is interesting. Even though Sony dropped their release plans for "The Interview," a new promo arrived this afternoon on their YouTube channel. "Only one movie has the whole world [talking]. In Rogen and Franco we trust," reads the video description. So, what gives? Is their marketing department just pushing out the remaining material they have on the movie, even though it isn’t coming out? Or is there a new release plan in the works?

The latter scenario could possibly be brewing. In their coverage of the ongoing story regarding the Kim Jong-un assassination comedy, Buzzfeed noted that "there are ‘no discussions at this time’ about what to do with the movie, but that does not preclude the possibility that there could be discussions at a later date. When that discussion could happen likely depends on factors outside of the studio’s control, including how the Obama administration chooses to respond to North Korea’s alleged involvement in the hack. But there appears to be at least a fighting chance The Interview will eventually see some kind of release." Well, here’s the thing, the Obama administration has responded.

"Well, the cyberattack is very serious,” the President told ABC News. “We’re investigating it. We’re taking it seriously. You know, we’ll be vigilant. If we see something that we think is serious and credible, then we’ll alert the public. But for now, my recommendation would be that people go to the movies."

Will part of going to the movies include "The Interview" still dropping in cinemas on Christmas Day? We shall see. Watch the promo and the Obama interview below.

Update 12/19:  Sony has pulled the promo from YouTube, but here it is via MovieWeb.

  1. It\’s the ultimate marketing, something that I wish I been a part of. Selling a product that doesn\’t exist. And you get paid for it. Sony, if you are in art, you are the only ones thinking so. BTW, it\’s superbad for the actors…Ciao

  2. Hey Mike, it\’s not about them going against our beliefs. It\’s about the fact that our society was built on freedom of expression. If this is just a marketing scheme, how much does the US government charge for a possible reputation breaker? The idiots that post about blowing up anyone wouldn\’t have the balls to do it themselves either. I think this matter is much deeper than you think. we cannot allow another country to dictate our freedom of expression. It just shows the weakness of the US government if we bend over and take it.

  3. Mike.. are you suggesting Sony hacked themselves.. and leaked their own movies and sensitive information… just to promote this movie. You are what make us Americans look dumb… you uneducated fool… you sure sound stoopid you friggin moron

  4. I\’d have more interest and sympathy if the movie didn\’t seem so dumb, I mean all the clamour around censorship and freedom of speech for what? The question of what we do with our freedom comes to mind. I\’m in Europe and feels these days the freedom of expression we\’re fighting for always surrounds some piece of juvenile, sneering nonsense, what does that say about us?

  5. Mike : the only dumb American is you, who is idiotic enough to think that Sony would release crippling and embarrassing emails to hype a mid budget piece of crap like this movie. Sad and pathetic = you.

  6. this is obviously all just a giant, ingenious marketing campaign by sony and will make shit loads of money now. also, it revealed the self-centered, over patriotic, self-righteous, arrogant, bullish, bigoted racist population of America to come out on comment boards who think any nation that goes against them and their beliefs or ideals or offends them should be nuked or be met with violence from America. Cuz, you know, America and Israel is leading world peace, just look at Middle East, such a peaceful place now, all thanks to America and the vast brainless, racist, brainwashed, media manipulated American public. I guess only America should get peace and security and protection, the rest of the world can go to hell, cuz the universe revolves around the US of A, right? We are going to be the cause of our own downfall. The response and reaction to this nonsense just proved how dumb we Americans are, and the world laughs at us, not with us. the fact that everyone is buying into North Korea behind all this is sad and pathetic.

  7. For anyone curious, the quote they use here is in the description section of the video and not in the trailer itself as I was led to believe.

Also, it is not fixed from whatever it was before to say "talking". Nice find.
